The management and staff were unbelievably helpful and a pleasure to interact with. We had a sea-facing bungalow which was spotless, had a fantastic view and was a pleasure to stay in. As for the food, it was different every day and just awesome. Highly recommended, just the getting there is a bit of a mission (the final few kilometres to the hotel is quite rough), but definitely worth the effort."

We had a sea facing cottage, with amazing unique enclosed outdoor shower. Loved it. It was a bit chilly in August and we didnt have great weather, but there was plenty to do. Running down the warm sand dunes and the sunset cruise, watching the fish eagle catch a fish. The children absolutely love the powdery sand dunes,and the fabulous jungle gym and play area. Amazing babysitting service. Great for families. The food is wonderful and wholesome with two incredible theme evenings. Don't miss the seafood buffet, not to mention the desserts. It's not gourmet, but it's everything you need with fresh fish off the rod. So enjoyed that. The dining room staff are so sweet and charming. The staff are friendly and helpful. We didnt do any hikes or activities as it was cool, but the guys went fishing and enjoyed that. It's so fun to ride across the lagoon on the ferry. So different from city life. There's canoeing and other boats etc. I didnt get to see the cows on the beach as it was too cold at night but hopefully next time. We went to the salon and had an amazing experience. it was so tranquil and beautiful, situated right at the top of the hill, views for miles. Wonderful staff and a great massage, reasonably priced. It's worth a visit. The bar area is nice and cosy with its log fires and family vibe. We enjoyed the bar quizz events. Such fun. It's a long drive from Durban but I suggest flying either charter or to Mthatha with a professional shuttle. It was hard to leave, we really got to wind down and enjoy the quietness and beauty of the surroundings. It's a unique setting with caring people, a wonderful family venue, as well as private enough for romantics. We'll definitely go back one day just to swim in the lagoon and walk on the sand dunes and eat all the great food. Thanks to Kevin for all the good advice on travelling. The personal care is evident throughout the resort. It's about the nature and the people. My only complaint is that I needed wifi in the rooms but I guess you're supposed to forget about technology and switch off. You can sit in the lounge by a roaring fire, eat scones and muffins and check in with wifi. Not a bad experience at all. This resort is like going back in time where people chat and greet you and get to know you, and children run around and make new friends. Tks to everyone at Umngazi."

When we complained they told us they have hot water bottles 🤣🤣. Room had a fireplace but windows were rotted and ocean breeze cut through the room like a knife. Eventually forced the windows closed from the outside and that helped. Staff tried there best with firewood."

Best decision I made. I had heard about Umngazirhotel and spa for years and its everything they rave about. The walks are superb. The rooms are very very comfortable and private. Every staff member goes out of their way to make your stay memorable. The beach world class. I had lots of spa tretments that were very good. Then of course being a foodie person we talk about the food- they cater for every taste at every meal . I honestly cant rave enough about the food it was outstanding "world class". We have booked for next year already. We were swimming in June . Do yourselves a favour and book your trip."

The weirdest combinations presented together! I would suggest that a themed lunch would work much better. I also think that in this day and age, decent coffee options are essential."

The views of the coastline on the one hour flight were fantastic. On arrival at the resort we were greeted by wonderful staff and made to feel special straight away. This unique resort will not disappoint to the food, staff and accommodation, the service was excellent. If I had to explain Umnagazi I would say a mixture of Berg, bush and beach. TRIP ADVISOR - MS1919 - Heaven on earth - - - "So happy that we could experience Umngazi at long last!! This must truly be one of South Africa's best-kept tourist secrets. After driving several hours through the Eatern Cape's potholed roads it feels like you've reached an oasis. Everything was exceptional at Umngazi, the food really is amazing - especially the legendary seafood bufffet on Saturdays. We has to change to a garden suite due to water damage but the rooms was so spacious and well appointed. Bathrooms with outside shower are lovely. Beds very comfortable. The friendliness of the staff is also very exceptional - from the groundsmen, waiters to the managers. We arrived a day after the devestating floods at Port St John's - and even though the resort also suffered damage with water and electricity loss, it really was remarkable the way the Umngazi stafff made sure that everyone was taken care off and still having a wonderful time. We went on a guided bird walk and also did the sunset cruise with Kelvin - both of these experiences remarkable. Would love to go again and again and again!!"

The rooms isolated away from everyone really gave that peace and privacy. Service from staff was very good. The only downside and this is where the one star was lost was on the food. Making side dishes for meat main courses and offering it as a vegetarian meal also considering the price paid I don't see why a simple thing like soya is not available for vegetarians. Noticed other vegetarians having the same issue as me on Sunday for lunch."

From the moment we were met on the mountain top airstrip with warm croissants and chilled champagne, I knew we were in for a special time. The food is amazing, with a delicious selection of healthy salads, and decadent desserts. Every day the lunch and dinner menu is different. We had a wonderful time, enjoying the early morning bird watch cruise and on another day the sunset cruise, complete with snacks and your choice of drinks, to watch the cattle along the riverbank and the Fisheagle come for a feed. For the price that was paid, I expected a much warmer welcome and more information about the resort, times of meals and what was included. I stated that I paid for an all inclusive and I wanted to know what was included. I was told the system does not state that I booked an ALL INCLUSIVE and if I did, I would receive a letter in my room. I did not receive any letter in my room and checked my booking again where it stated all inclusive. Went back and showed this to reception, again she says its only 3 meals included (was this for my duration of stay? or per day?). I had to further ask about tea, etc. and then only I would get a response. Very unfriendly and not much info given at reception. Staff during meals are totally untrained and lack knowledge. They do not understand about wines and communication is extremely weak. I asked to taste a wine to check if I would like it and would then order. I was asked to buy an entire bottle to try it, yet the wine is sold by the glass. No wine knowledge. Everytime you order a drink, a bill is brought to you, you expected to leave your meal and sign despite asking them to leave the tab open as we will be ordering more than 1 drink and will sign everything at the end. This was foreign to them and I realized that I was wasting my time speaking to the waiters. There is no room service available. It rained the entire weekend we were there and we could not order room service even for drinks. Our rooms were really far away. Been to numerous 4 and 5 star resorts in my life and I know the levels of what to expect, I was surprised at the lack of this at this establishment especially with the price paid. Service and friendliness definitely lacks. No individual attention (like most resorts, where its Good Morning Mr & Mrs xxxx), you are just a number here. Would definitely love to visit again as this resort has a lot of potential, they just need to up their game."

We booked the Ntabeni suite, and I am so glad that we did. The room is large, separate from the rest of the resort, had amazing views, and gave us access to an adults only swimming pool. The resort is on the river, with sea views, and there is lots to do. We had one day at the pool, one day on the beach, we did the guided Mangrove forest hike, we had a couples massage at the spa. I would highly recommend doing one of the hikes as the views are just spectacular. The spa treatment was a dream, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyday there is breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. We ate every dinner in the main dining room, although there is an option to pay more and have a special dinner. We were very impressed by all of the food, especially the dinners. There is a reason why almost every review on here mentions the food. We were not here with any children, but it seems like the perfect place for families with children from what we witnessed. We loved our room, but be forewarned that if you book the Ntabeni suite, it is a very steep long walk to get back to your room from the main dining area. Best be prepared to work those calf muscles. This is definitely a place we want to return to in the future, it is just quite a long journey from Johannesburg."

BOOKING.COM - Maryline French - 8 Nov 2022 - - - Stunning location but poor service and facilities and passable food! - - - " :) - Location is stunning though very remote :( - Most things sadly.We had paid and booked for a sea view bungalow for our wedding anniversary but were told on arrival that the room we had paid for was a river view bungalow.I had upgraded long before our stay from a river view to a sea view but Umngazi alledged they never received the upgrade from Booking.com...after a 6 hour drive to Umngazi this is not what we wanted to hear and the management only offered ,after much debate, to give us a honeymoon suite for one night only meaning we would have had to move our stuff again the following morning to another bungalow when we were only staying for 2 nights anyway !We were very tired from the drive and just wanted to relax so we thought that was a totally not practical or an acceptable solution!Apart from that we found the food on offer to be our less favourite out of the various hotels and restaurants we have experienced during our 3 week tour of SA!We would rate is as just adequate considering the quality of the food you get overall in SA...There is no wifi nor tv in the rooms so if you happen to be there on a rainy day like we did there is very little to do.The shower is an outside one so while that might be great in the heat of summer... on a rather damp and cool day that wasnt so much fun!For all these reasons we would not recommend Umngazi as in our opinion and in comparison to other places ,we have stayed at they fall below par on most levels!The location is stunning but that's all! I’m sure Umngazi will reply by saying this was the fault of Booking.com but upon reading other reviews it seems other travellers didn’t get the room they paid for neither so beware!

Staff friendly and attentive. Food very good. Breakfast buffet but with eggs freshly prepared - they make a mean omelet. Dinner choices were good and quality and quantity excellent, with good wine choices available. Our room was very large and comfortable - though purchased with a sea view so that I could look for whales, not much sea was visible as the trees and shrubs in font of the bungalow had grown to tall. The room was kept spotlessly clean during our 2 night stay. All linens and towels were clean and crisp. Complementary toiletries were available in the nice large bathroom. Plenty of storage space for clothes and luggage."

So this time we were adamant that nothing would stop us. On Monday 19th September we packed my wife’s red Volvo XC40 and headed south. As most travellers will know the route from Durban to Port Edward is plain sailing, however after crossing the bridge before the Wild Coast Sun driving conditions deteriorate radically. Be prepared for potholes, unmarked humps, a variety of animals and some hectic drivers who have little or no caring of their fellow road users. Bite the bullet because the Pot of Gold at the end of the journey is worth every hair-raising jolt to the system. A tip to fellow travellers stay behind the local taxis as they know every pothole and speed hump and save you losing your false teeth after hitting that unseen pothole or unmarked hump. Driving through some of the towns on the way is an education and needs patience as you stop whilst vehicles turn, stop for a chat or generally do some surprising things, especially in Flagstaff. Through the many twists and bends that lead you down to the shabby town of Port St Johns take heart your journey is nearly over. Turn right after the bridge entering PSJ and you have a mere 20 kms to go. That feeling when you are welcomed by the smiling guard at the entrance to Umngazi is amazing. You have arrived at your home for the next few days. We were booked into chalet 46 for seven days. After sorting out the ‘red tape’ at reception we were escorted to our secluded sea facing home. Our chalet offered every creature comfort you could wish for, a welcome fruit basket, bar fridge, outdoor shower with sea view, ample cupboard space and entire privacy. I must admit the safe was a challenge as it is on the top of the cupboard and I being 6ft had to go on tip toes to get at it – shorties you are going to need to stand on the chair! We were fortunate being in a Ntabeni Suite so we were entitled to breakfast with others at Emlonyeni Lounge together with guests from the Honeymoon & Emlonyeni suites. The Emlonyeni Lounge offers a children free environment for breakfast and a plunge pool with lounges for relaxing. A great spot for those of us who welcome peace and no screaming ‘ankle biters’. The Umngazi experience offers everything your heart can desire and more. Walks, hikes, kayaking, whale and dolphin watching, boat rides, sunset cruises, games and on and on…………….. Then there is their award winning Spa. Wow, I’m not a Spa fan but I had the most expert Pedi and paraffin wax treatment whilst my wife had full body massages etc until she almost floated back to our suite. Last and not least there is Chef Nico’s divine cuisine! With three scrumptious meals a day Umngazi is not the place to visit if you intend to lose weight! There are also morning and afternoon teas which we avoided because we were so well sated. Together with the great meals is one of the best wine lists I have seen in years – something you don’t expect in the bush. Don’t forget their exquisite cocktails to sip as the sun sets. Nico, you and your Team deserve 10 Stars and could challenge anything some of the 5 star establishments offer. WELL DONE!! PEACE/TRANQUILITY/PAMPERING/SAFETY/SMILING STAFF – sums up just some of the things you can expect at Umngazi! Where else in our beautiful but bruised South Africa can you safely walk on your own at 10 o’ clock at night, sleep with your un-burglar guarded windows open and feel safe? UMNGAZI WE WILL BE BACK!!!!!"

Shuttle not being there anymore- takes away from the feeling of luxury- communication is lacking- kids meal time different from adults- feels like they think people go there to get away from their kids. Kids activities only posted on the morning- makes planning your day difficult. Lovely place over all- but the banisters around the houses are a risk for little kids as there are no spokes in between. The food was lovely- but I feel they try to be too fancy- go a little more simple and “home cooked” - the managers and bar staff was very friendly- and some of the waiters- but I do feel the staff do not seem so welcoming all the time. Cleaning of the rooms should maybe be scheduled with the guest- as we ran into the cleaning lady every morning in our room after we came back from breakfast- right when we would like to get dressed for the beach/ hiking etc. She did clean very well though. Water was not supplied in the room and we some days had to ask for milk to be replaced for coffee. The toiletries also was not refilled every day. I know this sounds like a bad review- but I assure you it’s not. The place is great, the food is great, the service is great, but I do feel maybe because of change of ownership and covid - some cuts have been made - and it’s not quite the paradise luxury that all our friends that have been there over the years - have told us it would be"

Very friendly staff and they had made the stay pleasurable. The cold temperature in the rooms. There are no aircons in the rooms and with the large gap under the door, we had a cold breeze blowing through the chalet. We ended up putting towels at the bottom of the door. There were some plumbing problems with a blocked drain and a leaking shower on the patio. The food was average and not much of a variety. for the cost of the full board venue, greater variety of dishes would be better. Some suggestions were made to the catering staff on vegetarian options on days that we were vegetarian. This being a seaside venue, one expects more seafood options and seafood dishes."

We had initially booked a two night stay, but ended up adding one more night, that’s how amazing the experience was. We went on the Sugar Loaf Hiking trail (the combination of beach and hills was out of this world) and although we were extremely tired, we managed to spot some whales and dolphins in the water too along the way. The staff were superb, patient and kind. The food was delicious, freshly prepared and plentiful, I think I picked up a few k’s too! I also enjoyed my cake, thank you. I was alone on the beach, so safe I must emphasise and the I can’t get over the sunset views on the cruise 🚢 The Spa treatment was good too. Will be back, thank you for being such an amazing home away from home. Our Transkei hidden gem"

Would love to see proper brown whole-wheat bread baked and offered daily instead of that sliced stuff. The staff was unfailingly friendly but it is possible that more training may be required as guests return after Covid just to reinforce standards. For example, we arrived in heavy rain and were not offered help with our cases to get to our lovely Emlonyeni bungalow. We had to ask for an umbrella and the staff member did not seem to know there were umbrellas provided in the bungalows. Knowledge of Umngazi was assumed (which is reasonable as most people are returning South Africans) but a little more explanation of how things work might have helped. A folder in the bungalows offering details of activities, hikes, walks and the area’s history would have been appreciated."

A large negative is the trip to get there - the R61 road is active with goats, cattle, donkey, pigs, horses and Africanus dogs. This together wiht the very winding road made for stressful travelling. We had to go through Flagstaff and Lusikisiki - not pleasant. The main road in Flagstaff is laden with people and cars all stopping - theft from vehicles is rife. I want to go to Umgazi again but it would need ot be a fly in to Port St JOhns."

However the staff in general were extremely friendly and helpful, and I commented to my travel companion how joyous and happy they all seemed. I caught a number of lady staff members singing away as they worked or walked around. Poor wifi coverage. Considering that the Covid-19 pandemic has created a new phenomenon, a new type of traveller i.e. those going on a "workation", the wifi at 4 star hotels should REALLY be up to scratch and they need to cater for such travellers. I was "working from home" on this road trip and good wifi was a necessity. There is no wifi in the rooms so I was advised to work in the Adult TV room above the lounge. Unfortunately the staff in reception, the staff visiting reception and the staff entering the lounge and bar area from the reception side were unbelievably noisy, and had almost constant conversations at TOP volume with complete disregard for me trying to work very close by in that TV lounge. Also there was a jovial bunch of lady trail runners visiting the hotel during our stay who insisted on the bar music being played SO loud before dinner, that one couldn't even hear to talk to one's partner in the bar when having pre-dinner drinks. Then we had the arrival of the large cycling group where the ululation (lililili sounds) from the lady staff, and again ridiculously loud music, went on for about 2 hours. I do admire the jovial spirit Umngazi is trying to create for larger groups, but it really is at the discomfort of and detriment to other guests. Thank you to the kind and attentive manager (I think his name is Keith) who offered me his office upstairs away from the noise to attend my online work meeting. The food was outstanding, the hikes beautiful and the location is stunning."

BOOKING.COM - Maxine - 31 July 2022 - - - Potential to be amazing but very disappointing - - - "The food choice looked great, the location is lovely and the staff were all very friendly Together with most of the resort we came down with Norovirus which meant we were very ill for two of the three days we stayed. It appeared that people had been ill at the start of the week and it was only on the Sunday when we enquired at reception what was making us so ill, were we told it was Norovirus. Ideally we would have been contacted to rearrange our stay based on illness sweeping the resort. Upon my return from Umngazi lots of people in my community had experienced similar sickness issues staying there, dating back to January 2022. The rooms we were in should have had wifi coverage but they didn't, which made our confinement to beds more challenging. There was no way to contact reception from the rooms which were a steep walk from reception (I selected these rooms specifically as they were meant to have coverage). The room allocation and configuration were wrong on arrival, although this was resolved by staff. We literally could not eat for 2 days of our stay, but were not offered any voucher/reduction."

Complete over-indulgence of eating, sleeping, hiking and having fun. Just what a holiday is about. The drive from East London airport to Umngazi was a bit hairy with riots, scammers trying to get us to pay for a fake pass to drive on a public road, etc. Our country has it's issues and unfortunately, we needed a car and wanted that autonomy, but it would make me think twice about driving again. Although there is beauty everywhere, Mthata itself has a dangerous element that can rise up. Just be aware and possibly phone the GM before you leave the airport to ask if there have been recent incidents or reports. Forewarned is best."

The area is off the beaten path of the international visitors. Yes, it’s a long drive from anywhere (except Umthatha airport) but what a glorious one! And then, at the end of this journey of wonder, a hotel that immediately feels good when you arrive. Friendly groundsman directs where to park, efficient check-in. Taken to the ‘adults-only’ section of the hotel to our generous seaview suite. Breath. It’s dark now and the only shower is outdoor. A slight winter-chill is in the air and we wonder if the demure showerhead is up to its task. Turns out that small on the outside provides a waterfall. Best shower in ages. Cleverly thought out and lots of great design flair. This is a family hotel first and foremost, we were two couples travelling together and sometimes the family focus was a bit jarring. The casual homophobia we experienced on our last night by some other guests, didn't help either. All meals are included in the rate, and this is one area that could be improved. More fresh fruit and just better overall execution would make a difference. The river cruise is recommended. The spa is wonderfully situated, the treatment rooms could do with a good clean though, and some maintenance. A good holiday overall, would return."

Poised to become our regular holiday spot! - - - "We stumbled upon Umngazi Resort website while looking for holiday spots on the wild coast. We decided to give it a go by booking the Amava package for 3 nights. Although we were skeptical as to how true the website is compared to the actual experience we are SO glad we gave this place a chance. The reality surpasses what the website shows. It is one of the most amazing places we've stayed at in South Africa. From the get-go, the service was impeccable. We chose the sea view room which is definitely worth the extra pennies you pay for it. The staff is very caring, kind and lovely. And the food is beyond measure! Each evening we were served a different menu full of flavour and variety - Saturday seafood buffet is highly recommended! The breakfast buffet was also slightly different every morning and filling for a day full of activities. We also enjoyed the 11 AM and 4 PM tea/coffee which was a nice touch for a place that really makes you feel at ease and relaxed. Our package came with a boat cruise, a private dinner (with an alternative menu) in the Riverside gazebo, and a spa treatment. If you are not booking a package, you should definitely try all three of these things. We were served at the Riverside Gazebo by Kazi who was such a lovely host for the night and the food was absolutely delicious. If you are not driving to the place from Gauteng then a good option is to book a flight to Umtata airport and pre-book shuttle to Umngazi. We used Sun Shuttle Service which came recommended by the Resort staff. Umtata airport also has rental services if you'd like to drive yourself. Also, contrary to popular opinion, the road to Umngazi from Umtata (except the final 10km stretch) is quite good. It is true that network is quite patchy in the area as you'd expect from a place so remote but it is not as bad as it's made out to be in some of the reviews. Staff will tell you right away that rooms may not have Wi-Fi access so, you have to rely on your mobile phone network. It's also about what you are looking for in a place such as this. It offers you to switch off and relax which is great. We will be back and might even make it our regular holiday destination to unwind every few months!"

If you're traveling from CPT, I recommend flying to East London and hiring a shuttle (Lyons tours) from the airport to Umngazi. The drivers know the roads well. Spa prices were also very affordable. For hikers there is only one trail you can do on your own. A guide is available for other hikes and again at a very reasonable price. If you want to do the sunset cruise I would suggest booking on arrival as unfortunately we didn't and it was full every evening of our stay. I would suggest booking cottage 11 which is in a perfect location with lovely views. Sadly we had to move cottages for our last night and were moved to a family unit. I would NOT recommend booking one of these if you are a couple as they are more noisy with no privacy. This rather spoiled the end of our stay. However I would still recommend Umngazi and would love to return."

We have a 1,5 years old daughter and in their creative zone where just a few things for her to do :( the view and location of the hotel is nice. Everything was clean but a little bit to sterlie. The road to the hotel is in a really bad condition and we are not sure if we would book for that price the hotel again. We sleep very well in the beds. The motivation from the stuff in the morning during the breakfast was totally missing. Especially the lady at the egg station."

Three fine dining but wholesome family meals plus two teas in between… Their aim seems to be to keep guests happy. Lots to do here, ferry trips to the beach, birding, hiking, cruises down the river in a very unique setting. BUT, annoying that there is no WiFi throughout the hotel and cellphone reception is intermittent. The roads to paradise are awful, full of bumps and humps and potholes. Consider flying in."

I would suggest that signs be erected requesting this not to be allowed based purely on hygiene standards and as a courtesy to other guests. I would also suggest that more care be taken by the staff when packing the table cutlery by using gloves as to avoid any contamination onto the utensils that could create stomach issues as was the case during our stay. Alternatively please vacuum pack the cutlery on the tables to avoid contamination."

Compliments for the staff that is overall very friendly (with some exceptions….)! Everything is taking care of; 3 meals a day, afternoon tea, snacks, a gym, a ferry that takes you to the opposite beach where you can make beautiful walks and enough entertainment when there’s some rain forecasted (like the pingpong table that we really enjoyed). We had a lower bank sea facing bungalow, nicely decorated with an outdoor shower, small fridge and tea making facilities. (keep in mind that these bungalows are inter-connected and only separated with a door so we could hear our neighbors sneeze…) When you compare it to other accommodations in the area this is really one of a kind. But you also pay accordingly so you can expect something, right? That’s where the improvements come in: - Wifi: there was no guest wifi. They mentioned it when we arrived without any further explanation or timeline when it would be up again. They had internet themselves so what’s the problem to fix this so you van offer your guests wifi in the main area (like advertised)? I informed about it several times but I only got ‘No’ as an answer, a bit bold in my opinion. It became of a problem for us because my husband got sick and we wanted to see a doctor but couldn’t look for anything online ourselves. - Reception: Because of the lack of wifi I informed at the reception if we could stay 2 nights longer (which was not possible, only one night) so my husband could get better. As an alternative I asked reception if they could help me with a doctor. It felt like every question I asked was too much and I was being difficult. Don’t know if they were just unwilling or unskilled, but if you work in the hospitality business that’s what you like to do right; help your guests during their stay. I didn’t have cell reception as well, so I had to ask them again if I could call the doctor with the land like, which was very bad so I could’t reach them. Eventually we drove there based on a vague description from the desk and also decided not to stay an extra night because we had the feeling we weren’t really welcome and they’d rather see us leave. So we did. - Food: Last item is the food; breakfast and lunch buffet is really good. We absolutely enjoyed it. You can choose whatever you like, there’s a chef making fresh eggs in the morning and at lunch there are so many options. At night it seems like a different chef/crew because the served dinner is just average, nothing more. F.e. the beef fillet was a total different meat, pumpkin soup looked like the same minestrone from lunch and desserts lacked taste. Portions re also very minimal (and I’ not a big eater at all). The salad bar was a big plus to have some extra veggies accompanying you courses. So all and all we had a nice stay, but if you asks your guests to pay topdollar you have to justify this with topdollar accommodation and service as well. And they just didn’t deliver when we were there.

Its definitely worth the long drive, all meals are included as well as fun and games for both kids and adults. The service is amazing, the staff are friendly and always going the extra mile. The food is tasty and the rooms are clean, there's even outdoor showers which are really amazing. The maintenance on the establishment is second to none. I cannot fault the establishment and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing time away either for a weekend away or couple of nights. We stayed over the Valentines Day period and the establishment made sure that it was made special for us all with heart shaped biscuits on our beds and a lovely dinner with candle light. We went for a relaxing massage and facial and it was magical with a lovely bubble bath to relax in at the end. There was morning tea with croissants and muffins and afternoon tea with chocolate brownies and fruit. The food is endless and the entertainment and activities are so much to keep you busy. All Covid19 protocols were observed and there are sanitizing stationers everywhere to make sure your health is priority for them. I will definitely be visiting it again soon.

I was fascinated with the place but it was out of reach at the time. Fast forward 30 years and my dream became a reality. I could not contain my excitement as the morning of my departure from home dawned. All the pictures that I Googled on a regular basis became reality. The resort and it's location is absolutely stunning. The food was exceptional and the staff fantastic. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the Spa and would definitely be back if it's just for the massage with a view. Here again the setting was breathtaking! Thank you for a memorable holiday which I will never forget!

TRIP ADVISOR - antheafisher2022 - Feb 2022 - - - 40th anniversary celebration - - -Travelling on the road from Hillcrest to Umngazi is stressful to say the least, heavy rain, the potholes, animals and bad drivers, you need a few days to recover ! .We were welcomed warmly in from the rain and ushered into the dining room for some really beautifully presented lunch . Management and staff are really friendly, and that was consistent the entire time. There were 6 of us and we were in room 38,39 and 40a.( you need to be fit to walk this path from the dining room - a good way to burn calories after your meals ! .We had booked the 5 day Amavu package and found it to be good value. It included 3x 20 min massages , bubbly, a shop voucher, a river cruise and a special dinner . There are a lot of "littlies" and young families at this time of the year and it was difficult to find place at the pool, and made for noisy meal times. The ferry across to the beach is required and once there you have to walk through a lot of cow patties. If it is a beach holiday you want then i would reconsider this venue. The boys so enjoyed fishing with the gilly. The sunset river cruise with a very knowledgeable. Kevin was outstanding . The bar staff are really lovely and on the last night there was a music quiz . Felt lie there should have been something like that every night . The seafood evening , the braai lunch and most other meals were really lovely.

If you’re looking for a great view, ask for rooms one row up from the river. The food is extensive and there is enough variety to not get bored. However, tea times and desserts were a bit disappointing - not one of the resorts strengths sadly. The kid’s dining room was a hit with our toddler and made meal times so much easier. I've now gone with my own family and it is just as wonderful, if not better. The facilities are stunning, the staff is friendly, the nannies are reliable and gentle with your children. The food is outstanding. We actually can't wait to go back there. We were on a friends trip with 4 other families, and it was great to be able to grab a cappuccino at the bar at 06.30am and go and play on the jungle gyms with the other littles. There are enough chill areas for those without kids to be able to relax and enjoy their time their too. My only issue was with the reservations - we went back and forth when booking and when we arrived, there was still confusion. This is something that Umngazi could fix easily." TRIP ADVISOR - Nikki R - 20 Nov 2021 - - - Paradise Found ! - - - This was our first visit to Umngazi Hotel and Spa and it was everything we had hoped for and more ! From the minute we arrived we felt at home, the check in process was smooth and our room was just wow (loved the views from our bed and the outdoor shower !) Since we were there to celebrate a wedding anniversary we chose one of the Emlonyeni rooms which are more secluded and have use of a private TV lounge/breakfast room and pool, perfect for couples ! The facilities throughout the resort were top class and all the meals during our stay were delicious, we loved eating outside on the deck and our only complaint is that we ate far too much ! The staff were wonderful too, especially Teddy who was our waiter at the Emlonyeni pool and lounge. We honestly felt like we were in paradise, the views of the surroundings from the minute you wake up until you go to bed are almost indescribable. We took walks along the beach, swam in the sea, did some organised walks/hikes in the hills and forest, as well as a sunset cruise and some canoeing. A highlight for us was a private dinner we had in the gazebo stretching out over the river to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, loved it. And finally a mention of the spa, the setting was divine, with views over the resort to the sea but more importantly, professional, friendly employees delivering top class treatments - thank you ! We will definitely be back ! PS we flew from CPT to East London, hired a small car and drove the 4.5 hrs via Mthatha to the resort, the roads were great except for the last 12km to the resort but we were well aware of that and drove slowly on that section, taking in the beautiful surroundings along the way." The rooms are very comfortable and Beautiful. We stayed in a Seaview, and what a view. The service was average. We sat at the same table everyday, and yet they never had it set up for us, even after asking. When the managers does their rounds suddenly things start happening, but maybe they should be there more often during the week, and not just over weekends when its more booked. I would suggest that you give a option during the week, that for a fee you can order food from a menu. However over the weekend the food was fantastic. The kids entertainment and facilities are fantastic. As I said before the rooms were amazing. The only thing was the towels. By day three, they took our towels presumably to replace them with fresh ones as nothing dries easily, BUT NEVER DID. The last 10 km of Gravel leading to resort is not maintained nor safe to travel on without a 4x4. Majority of Meals do not cater for Halal and the Vegetarian options are limited and repetitive. However there are a few things that could be improved on...Service in the main dining area could be brushed up on. As a first time guest it is always nice to be introduced to how things work rather than be left in the dark. The Spa was also lovely. Unfortunately my therapist had such long nails they would scratch me as she massaged and my partners therapist continued to chew gum during his massage. The rooms were superb, the food amazing and it was immaculately clean. Things I would change or add: the snacks on the river boat cruise were very poor. No one ate the stodgy pastries. Also, no drinks available on board. Rather charge more and have a choice of drinks and quality snacks. In the bar area get rid of the snooker table ( no one plays snooker anymore) and put in two pool tables. Get some pedal boats and hobie cats for the guests to use. Booked 2 spa packages and the baths filled up with brown gunk. Told staff about it, but next time it happened again. Staff (Aphiwe) lied and said it's normal, until management came and apologized, but still charged us fully for everything, so mainly just an empty apology. Overall, bad staff training is likely what's letting Umngazi down. You feel like you're a hassle to any waiter, and any questions you have are met with "uhhh". Of course we want to break away, but with no cellphone reception we relied on Wifi to stay in contact for work/emergencies - I hope this is something they improve. We drove from jhb and were in such anticipation that the 11 hour drive felt like nothing. When we arrived we were so graciously received. The entire week met every expectation and then some - my sister being a front line worker during the covid pandemic really needed this break and I am so grateful that we were able to take this break at this place. We have been looking forward to it since May 2021 and the magnificent views, the breathtaking hiking trails, comfortable and serene accommodation with it's own incredible views and absolutely amazing food left nothing to disappoint. We truly were in a place that can only be described as heaven on earth and now back in Johannesburg ready to tackle the rest of the year with renewed energy and a sense of peace that Umngazi has given us. It was heaven on earth, the view of the estuary and beach are out of this world, the food and activities are incredible. The spa was voted the best in SA not too long ago and I can see why. Their couple spa package is the best one we've had so far, be sure to book the jacuzzi option! Food was local cuisine. It is luxury with some rustic touches to keep you down to earth. There is a private pool area for anyone who stays in a Suite so you can escape the kids madness by the main pool and communal areas but you can go join the bar for some fun when you want. The Spa is excellent and sipping on Champers while in the jet bath over looking the coast is very hard to beat. The food is also excellent and you can request private meals (for a fee) in two very romantic areas. Green Door was my favorite as it was dark by the time we made it to the waterfront gazebo. The only thing I would improve on is the arrival for honeymooners as you don't get much of a special welcome by reception staff and they aren't very informative about your stay or the activities on offer (hikes etc). The setting is heavenly and I havent experienced the cleanliness and attention to detail in a long time. My toddler had a ball and spent many a happy hour beachcombing the lagoon. The lack of boating activity and allowance of such have resulted in a lot of atmosphere and entertainment factor to be forfeited. To top it off, cold showers the entire weekend as the room next door enjoyed there hot water leaving us with none left. Food was good which can be expected at over 3500 a day. The resort seems to cater mostly for the elderly at this time and I would recommend that anyone over the age of 14 and below the age of 30 to steer clear from here on out. Each and every staff member greeted us with a smile. The well thought out layout of the bungalows and the décor choices of central dining room, bar and lounge show unity with the local culture and natural surroundings. The unbelievable location on the Umngazi River mouth cannot be rivalled and dining experience is outstanding. There is also much to keep one entertained - an early morning walk on Sugar Loaf hill; a long leisurely stroll to Flat Rock along the expansive beach (observing the rest Ngunis along the way); a superior massage at the Umngazi Spa; a sunset cruise down the Unmgazi River (with fantastic birdlife) ;a fun quiz game back at the bar in the evening before settling into the dinner spread of seafood and other treats! Having spent 4 incredible days here it truly felt like a home away from home and gave me the chance to rest and rejuvenate with my significant other. The staff are always willing to help with whatever you need, everything is clean and well thought out. We never once felt we were missing anything. The views are hard to beat, i highly recommend a guided hike with a guide who gives you a run down on the history of the area and is well versed in the animal and plant life. The sunset cruise up the river is a delight and of course the cows on the beach was such a whimsy. But perhaps... my favourite was the food, you wont go hungry, in fact you may leave a few kg's heavier.. and this is where a say a personal thank you to Nico, the wonderful chef. As a vegan it can be a pesky challenge to have well rounded meals especially in more remote locations but I was extremely well catered for with far too much to choose from and even my own menu. It needs to be taken into account that your guest may have travelled challenging roads and are severely fatigued on arrival. Security check in with Covid protocol is fine. On the way to reception a guest in a large Toyota Fortuner blocked the road. I had to get out of the car and guide my wife who was driving past the persons car. We park our car where directed to and are shown towards reception. At reception I am not offered a drink, nor a hot towel but rather the receptionist (Lindiwe) in a robotic nature asks me to complete a form. The form passes between me and Lindiwe five times as after each request to supply information – Lindiwe remembers that more information is required. The majority of the information requested has been supplied before to Umngazi in the booking process and in completing the Covid forms ahead of our arrival. The receptionist has no friendliness or efficiency and I am expected to recall the temperatures of all members in the party, as measured at the gate (the security guard had written it down – I never expected that I would have had to memorise it). I am reminded that I must pay the balance of my account at this stage. I pay reluctantly as my reception thus far gave me a poor confidence in the investment. A porter will take our luggage to chalet 5 – we are waived away by Lindiwe. There is a single porter with a steel trolley waiting at my car. At this time I am confronted about fishing lessons – to which I politely reply – that I do not think it is the appropriate time to discuss fishing. The porter takes two bags on his trolley and my wife, daughter and I carry the rest of the luggage to chalet 5. On the way to chalet 5 we pass Jakes (Manager on Duty) he greets us friendly “Welcome to Umngazi” – he does not help us carry our luggage. We follow the porter carrying our own luggage passing a number of other Umngazi staff members. Down the hill after the restaurant the porter drops both bags off his trolley, no apology offered having dropped the luggage. At chalet 5 there is someone else’s washing on the table outside the chalet. My wife looks for a hair dryer there is none. She goes to reception to report it and is told that there is no hair dryers currently available – as soon as other guests leave one will be made available to us. (https://tinyurl.com/ujuw7ufd)

Nicole and Keith, Catarina at the spa, Terry, Jakes and every person we met made our stay memorable. The bed was large, comfortable and the bedding was of excellent quality. The bathroom was just as large, with an lovely semi-outdoor shower, which had great water pressure. The grounds are beautifully manicured and very well kept and walking around the grounds definitely gives you the holiday-feels. When walking up the path up to the SPA, it feels as if you are in a forest. The therapists at the SPA was so professional, friendly and accommodating (book your treatments in advance) ... their hands hold magic to help you de-stress from the everyday life that you leave behind at the gate when entering the resort. The SPA treatments were amazing & being able to hear the waves crashing on the shore in the background while having your treatment, transports one to a place of great relaxation. Being able to enjoy some bubbly after our treatments, on a private deck overlooking the beach, was an extra special touch.If you want a hard proper work over ask for Seka? The most powerful massage i have ever had which includes multi visits overseas. The food is out of this world & was always varied with each meal. We did not make the morning and afternoon teas only because we were too full from the buffet style breakfast and lunch. Compliments to the chef and his staff for churning it out the way they did. During our stay, there were some plated dinners and also buffet-style dinners. Saturday seafood evenings is a must and the desserts on offer each evening was just plain mouthwatering. There is so much to do so it's impossible to get bored. We loved " Kevin's sunset cruise" (booking is essential) ... Kevin is so entertaining ! Snacks are served on the cruise and you can order your drinks from the bar before hand - the drinks will be waiting for you when you board. The Bar is well stocked and the staff, very friendly. We could only visit for 3 days again, but definitely worth 5-7 day (or longer) visit if you can. The road is far and long but worthwhile once you get there! Accommodation is superb- clean bathrooms, fluffy towels, outdoor shower with the best view, extremely comfortable beds. There is plenty of entertainment for adults and kids- pool, lagoon (canoes and paddling, swimming, fishing, boat cruises), beach, just to mention some, and of course a spa for pampering. I was thrilled we could go on a hike this visit, making use of the nanny service as it would have been challenging for the kids. They enjoyed the creative corner and jungle gym in that time. The food is an absolute highlight and meal times something to look forward to. The kids had a variety to eat from in the kids’ diner which has everything you need to facilitate meal times. TRIPADVISOR - Mil-ZN - 1 Apr 2021 - - - A well-deserved 5-stars - - - This place is like chicken soup for the soul. We arrived to find an immaculately clean bungalow- no tv’s which was great. We also had the privilege of experiencing different sides of the resort in both a garden facing and estuary facing room and each had their own unique benefits. The food is exceptionally good and we never wanted for anything as there were pescatarian, vegetarian and vegan options catered for. The seafood buffet was definitely a highlight. A very special mention to Chef Nico who went out of his way to accommodate our dietary requirements and even made us a delicious vegan dessert on our last evening. He even packed us a special picnic basket for a beach lunch at very short notice. The sand-boarding is an absolute must. We travelled as a group of friends with kids and they were never bored. Plenty of sport, planned activities and a creative corner to keep them entertained. 2 suggestions for improvement would be to put a phone in the room so requesting amenities is abit easier. Also, the WiFi does not work well in the rooms so a few extenders might be required. Well-done on preserving the unadulterated beauty of this little piece of paradise. As before, after traversing some interesting roads, I found myself emerging in a little slice of heaven. Umngazi is fantastic - the food is wonderful (I did not eat all courses available at each meal - there was not enough space!), the staff attentive, caring and kind. I loved staying in Ntabeni which has magnificent views. The spa was incredible. And the setting is the best - the sea is wonderful (the walk across the dunes help burn off energy), the beach spectacular (including the local cow herd who you share the miles of beach with), the river is lovely and the number of activities available for adults and children alike makes for as busy or lazy an adventure as you would like. Throughout our stay we met a lot of people who have been coming here for years and years.First a s a child themselves, then with their children and now with their friends or with their grandchildren! Another reason were the lovely hikes. Especialy the mangorve hike was spectacular. A walk in je high grass, a walk on the beach, a walk in the jungle between the crabs and canoeing. The rooms are pretty basic. No mini bar, no bottles of water etc... But I didn't miss it. The lunch buffets were super as well. The dinners were touch and miss but once they started serving buffets they became very good. I think that's kind of the specialty here. The head chef created his own New York Style Cheesecake....it is a must. The best croissants in the whole of South Africa topped of with beautiful wine collections. Terry our barman at the Emlonyeni Pool made the best Pina Coladas my wife tasted in a long while. She still misses it. The guided walks to the blow hole and bird walk in the forest witjh Freedom and Albert enriched our stay. The rooms itself contained everything you wanted and the couples spa session were a real treat. Every morning we woke to Nguni cows walking to the beach. Umngazi basically blew our minds. They greeted with smiles showing they love their work. The room although small had beautiful finishes, it had sufficient lighting and luxurious bed linen. It was close to the main area, saving a lot of walking time. It had a view of the river as well which was enjoyable when taking a shower. But what stood out to me the most was their sense of Ubuntu. I've been to resorts abroad and never have I seen staff eat or take breaks. I love that their staff eat from the the same pots as guests. They sit neatly around their tables during their lunch and tea breaks to have some of the food the chef prepared. I loved that they don't sit at the back. Please note they firstly serve guests and start eating when things quiet down. I loved the boat ride across the river to get access to the beach. The is a great deal of togetherness between the community and hotel, free ferry rides are given to community members and staff. The food was also nice and varied throughout the day. The pool also was stunning and the new lights at night are enchanting. The place is amazing I must say. I would definitely like to come back. It's picturesque and really gives soul to the wild coast as it helps families make a living. Stunning place Disliked: When I arrived I was not told what the establishment offered in terms of activities hence I missed their sunset cruise. No one offered to help carry my bags to my room. No welcome drinks or cold towel was received like many international resorts I have been to. No one personally directed me to my room. I was shown a map instead. We travelled from Scottburgh and unfortunately the rood became very bad from just before Flagstaff the pot holes are horrendous the road does improve a bit before you tun off to Umngazi but the those 12 kilometres to the hotel is very bad. The food is still top drawer and the service was wonderful. It is a natural wonderland for children too but I would personally choose to go there when it isn't school holidays. Even before arriving, I was blown away by how helpful their reservations staff were (special mention of Charmaine!) who answered all my millions of questions re. Covid protocols etc. and on this basis we decided to go ahead and come, despite the lockdown and restrictions that goes with it. Well it was a decision I will never regret - one of our best holidays ever!! Stunning location, surrounded by the most incredible natural beauty of the Wild Coast. Pristine white sandy beaches that go on forever. Amazing hiking trails from the resort (we did 3 of them). Super friendly staff who cannot do enough for you! Beautiful clean chalet which had everything we needed and super comfy beds. And the food!!!! Oh my word...simply divine. 3 scrumptious meals a day + morning and afternoon tea! Thanks to head chef Nico who always made sure that we were catered for as vegetarians. Loads to keep children entertained all day with kids activities, fishing, swimming, creative corner, and even a dedicated kids dining area with a special kids menu. All round perfect family holiday! What a slice of paradise! The Eastern Cape has always been a favourite travel destination for myself and my partner, but never before had we experienced it as at Umngazi - wow! Our only complaint was that there wasn’t enough shade along the river edge ( as the pool area was full) and if one wanted to get away from all the activity around the pool - there was no were set up with shade a long the river edge. TRIPADVISOR - 737sp - 24 Nov 2020 - - - All in all, a great stay - - - Had a wonderful experience this past weekend at Umngazi! The scenery was sublime. The food was pretty good; the hotel catered to our dietary requirements very well. We're Muslim so we stick to seafood and veg when we travel (seafood and veg is always halaal, as long as no alcohol and meat based items are used). I think any vegetarian would be quite happy; there was a vegetarian meal on every menu. In fact, on Sunday there was a braai. We avoided the meat, as per our diet, but were very happy (and quite full) with the salads and sides that were offered. The salads were substantial, bulked up with things like avo and chickpeas. Fish was great. No complaints in that regard. The spa was brilliant. What a location. What a view. Your massage takes place with the sound of the ocean in the background. Great therapists as well. On top of all this, it's quite affordable. A 60 minute full body massage is R500. Considering the setting and the spa being of such high quality, I thought it was excellent value for money. Just one suggestion: please use warmed oil, or just check with the guest his/her preference first. The room: lovely. Well designed. Outdoor shower was a lot less 'rustic' than I expected. Very cool and comfortable inside, even when the windows and doors are shut. We didn't find the lack of an aircon a problem at all. There was a fan which we hardly used. Service: almost all the staff in Umngazi are great (special mention: Ethel and Welcome. Ethel accommodated our every request with a smile. Thank you). The receptionists let the place down though. We had an awful first impression when we arrived on Friday. The receptionists were honestly the worst I've seen. Terribly unhelpful. Lazy. Chatting amongst themselves. Terrible communicators (not a language barrier, simply poorly trained). Please, please train your receptionists to bring them up to the level of the rest of your staff. We arrived at the resort at 14h30. We were told to quickly hurry and have lunch (the buffet was by this point, mostly empty, and cold). At this point, were not told that there was afternoon tea available. Thinking that this would be our only meal until supper, we ate something cold quickly. I thought that the buffet was going to be like that (cold with limited options) for the rest of our stay! It would have been better if our receptionist told us that afternoon tea will be served from 15h30, so we could have relaxed and came down for some tea and snacks to fill us up before supper. In addition, during our stay, there was no wifi or cellphone reception for two days. When we enquired with the duty manager on on Saturday night, instead of telling us that the there was no electricity (we found out later), we were told that there is no reception. Huh? She was another disappointing staff member. We enquired about booking a hike the following morning; she said the reception closed at 8pm and therefore she couldn't tell us if there was space available on the hike. She told us to come to reception at 6:30 the following morning to find out if there was space (this said with her mouth full of chicken). Really, guys. Come now. At least check in the book for us, or tell us that you don't have access to the book at all. Communication! The hikes and walks: beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. We did Sugarloaf rock and walked along the beach the following day. No picture can do them justice. One suggestion: seeing as no physical hike/trail maps were available (acc to reception), maybe the trails could be marked with differently coloured arrows? Krantzkloof in Durban does this well. Wow! It has certainly grown, but the same ethos, friendly staff and value for money applies. Our chalet was simple but spacious, beautifully decorated with uninterupted breathtaking views of the sea and sand, and a massive outside shower. The attention to detail was incredible, including a personal handwritten card welcoming us, along with a bottle of sparkling wine on ice. The food was sublime and out of this world, with my coeliac disease diet being catered for at each and every meal. We were there during the school holidays, but the parents looked relaxed as their kids were well entertained. We treated ourselves to a spa treatment and felt truly pampered in the luxurious surroundings. Our only disappointment was that we had only booked 3 nights! We will be back as soon as possible! Umngazi lived up to all my high expectations and we had a fantastic weeks stay. Friendly staff, wonderful meals and beautiful bungalows. Even though we had 3 days of rain during our stay, it did not dampen the spirits at all and it was spectacular to experience the mouth opening. Could not fault the hotel on any aspect. The staff were friendly and efficient. Accommodation was bright and cheery and clean. The experience was nothing short of amazing...the most scenic views, friendly staff and the food was spectacular. A massive thank you to the chef for taking our dietary requirements into our account and ensuring that there was always something delicious on the menu that catered to our needs. Also, to management for the complimentary bottle of bubbles and the hand written note...it made the occasion that much more special. The cottages are lovely and clean with two showers and a bath. The spa is an absolute must. My husband and I have rated the massages as the best massages we have ever had! And we do that kind of thing quite often. We stayed in a suite which was beautifully decorated, really spacious and luxurious. There are so many wonderful walks with spectacular views of the unspoilt coastline, the food is totally delicious for both meat eaters and vegetarians alike, and the whole establishment has a lovely homely feel. TRIPADVISOR - Janine G - 15 Nov 2020 - - - Piece of paradise... - - - This was our first visit to Umngazi, but it won't be the last... the resort is bigger than we thought it was, but you don't notice this as the facilities are so well set out. We went as a couple, which was amazing but this is an excellent place for families and travelling with friends - activities to keep the young ones busy each day while you relax at the pool! The property is so well located at the river mouth, with easy access to the beach by a short boat taxi. The staff are so friendly and the grounds are excellently kept! The food was really good, we even opted for a picnic basket one lunch to take to the beach to enjoy which was great! TRIPADVISOR - Escape38407332847 - 10 Nov 2020 - - - Mixed Feelings - - - Umngazi is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location, however I’m not sure we would return in a hurry. The service in some areas is very poor; both the reception staff and the dining room staff couldn’t be less interested in helping you, and getting any information out of anyone is almost impossible. I think because most guests are return visitors, the hotel just assumes you know how things work, but, of course, if it’s your first time there, you really don’t. Luckily we met some friendly return guests who were happy to “show us the ropes”. The bar staff, the ladies at the spa, and the staff who facilitate all of the kids activities, on the other hand, are wonderful. The food is good and there is lots of it, and it is great that kids are allowed to attend both dining areas, however the kid’s dining room and the adult’s dining room opening times do not overlap, so if your children eat dinner with you, but aren’t keen on eating what the adults have on offer, they have nothing to eat. The activities on offer (once you manage to find out what they actually are) are excellent and varied, especially the kid’s activities. The rooms are lovely and very private, and if you’re lucky enough to get a sea facing room, the view is magnificent. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Umngazi, our children especially, but as it’s a very long 5.5 hour drive from Durban via potholes, goats, and drunk pedestrians, I’m not sure we’d return in a hurry. I think, for the price, there are equal, if not better, venues with attentive staff and a far less arduous journey to get to them. (https://tinyurl.com/yy6omkye)

The scenery was breathtaking, the food amazing, the rooms wonderful and the activities great! Always wanted to do this, and it did meet our expectations over an above.The food was out of this world, the staff super helpful, friendly and well trained. The bungalows were clean and interesting. We had no fridge (like our friends) but did not need it at that stage. I personally like very dark curtains. And of course the road was horrendous, but that is not in your hands I suppose.
