TRIPADVISOR - Sarah L - 9 Jan 2019 - - - Christmas and New Year at Zilwa - - - We arrived Christmas Eve at Zilwa after a long delay with Tui flying out of London Gatwick, the long delay was quickly forgotten when we walked into the hotel and saw the view from the Lobby, it’s simply spectacular. Throughout our stay we tried all the restaurants, buffet, Mauritian, Chinese, Indian, beach restaurant. My favourite was the beach restaurant as there was a bit of breeze. We found the buffet and other restaurants were simply to hot to sit in and enjoy a meal. We did book all our restaurants before we arrived which if I had one complaint is that the hotel stopped this and allowed guests to book their restaurant of choice on that morning. I enjoyed the fact that lunch was quite casual and I could stay in my bikini and just put a kaftan on. New Years Celebrations were amazing with the most fantastic fire work display and disco although the All Inclusive option stopped at 12.30 which I thought was a bit unfair given it was New Year, after 12.30 you had to pay and sign for any drinks. A must at this hotel is the water sports and the Caramaran trip. We did the full day catamaran trip and the sunset catamaran trip, we had such a laugh and such a great time on both trips. The Boat Team are such a credit to the hotel, huge thank you to Captain Johnson, Kevin, Steeve, David, Emmanuel. The trips are great value for money and we would highly recommend them. The staff made this holiday for us, we had the best cocktails both at the boat bar and main bar from Oula, thank you also to Vicham and Yash for looking after us on our loungers on the beach and keeping the cold Gin and Tonics flowing.
Due to the delay our room was ready and luggage already waiting in the room. The rooms although rustic were very clean and had everything we needed, plenty of storage space, hair dryer and daily restocked mini bar.
The hotel put on a huge celebration on Christmas Eve and the buffet was out of this world including giant prawns, fillet steak, so much choice. You could choose to sit at the beach restaurant for a buffet which was BBQ and a good choice of salads followed by dessert and the nicest coconut ice cream I’ve ever tasted or not leave your lounger and order sandwiches and paninis. There was also the option of rotis and burgers from the little huts which also did crepes, tea and coffee in the afternoon.
