We at The ReviewA pride ourselves in listening to your voice to bring you insights that will help you make your learning experience an enjoyable one. Whether it is for school or pleasure, studying can be fun. Achieving consistently good grades at school, university or college takes hard work, careful planning and a smart study strategy.
If your goal is academic excellence, make sure that you never give up and that you are committed to achieving your academic goals. None of the following tips is rocket science and there is no real substitute for good, old-fashioned hard work. We believe you will find that these techniques are helpful in making a difference in your learning:
1. Study daily
Avoid last minute cramming by studying manageable sections every day. In this way, you will be continually reviewing and revising the work over and over in your mind. This helps you to understand things better as well as remember the work that you keep revising.
Nobody ever sets out to cram because it’s a great idea. It is as a result of poor planning. Plan your study routine ahead of time so that you’re not trapped into a cram session. Poor planning tends to cause the domino effect of other bad habits that start to follow suit because of time constraints, convenience, or necessity.
2. Use colours when writing study notes.
Colours have been thoroughly researched by people all over the world, and different shades or tints of colours are known to make us feel a certain way. A person is able to use all sorts of colours to create certain moods or mindsets when it comes to learning in class, writing study notes, studying for tests, and even taking exams. Using colours and highlighting the work also helps us distinguish what is important to learn and what isn’t important to learn.
It is important to note that writing your own notes is an essential part of processing and understanding information. By putting something into your own words, you’re actively digesting and making sense of that concept, as well as to pick out the important parts of a text on which to base your own notes. Highlighting works great with note-taking, but it is never a substitute for note-taking.
3. Use visual aids to understand the work better.
It is well known that visual aids arouse the interest of learners and help the teachers to explain the concepts easily. Visual aids are instructional aids which are used in and beyond the classroom to encourage teaching-learning process.
If you have access to the internet and other means of visual aids then make full use of this effective study method. Search outside study resources via the web. A quick search will likely lead you to a wealth of resources! You want to make sure all your senses are being used when studying to have better memory recollection of the material you are learning, and visual aids is one of the effective methods.
4. Pick a place and time best suited for you.
Everyone has their own idea about when and where is the best time or place to study. Whether it's at your desk in your bedroom at night or the library after school, it is important to find a comfortable study space and a regular study time that works for you. It is important that you stick with it to get yourself into a routine with studying. Your study space should be comfortable, neat, quiet and distraction-free so that you are not distracted.
With that in mind, it is also important to find the best time to study. Some people work better in the morning. Others work better at night. Find out which time suits you best and plan to study then so that you are motivated and able to concentrate.
5. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
If you're stuck on something, or something just doesn't seem to make sense, always ask for help until you understand what you are struggling with. Talk to your teachers or lecturers about the things you don't understand. Talk to your friends and fellow students too. You will be surprised at what you can learn by just interacting. Remember, that there is no such thing as a stupid question. There will sometimes be an aspect of the work that you may not understand but could be the key that unlocks the door of enlightenment.
